Purpose:
The Collie Junior Foundation Scholarship is designed to support young persons who have shown significant dedication to the Collie breed. The scholarship honors applicants who have actively participated in Collie-related activities, competitions, and service projects that demonstrate a love for the breed and a commitment to the Collie community. This scholarship emphasizes the importance of dedication allowing applicants to showcase their unique contributions to the Collie breed and their future aspirations. It celebrates those who are passionate about the breed and who have positively impacted the Collie community.
Award Amount:
Up to four (4) individual scholarships will be awarded in 2025, each in the amount of $1,000 toward tuition or educational expenses at a 4-year college, 2-year college, or a vocational/trade school.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age: Applicants must be between 16 and 22 years old.
- Education Plans: The applicant must be planning to attend a 4-year college, 2-year college, or a vocational/trade school. Award must be used within three (3) years of receipt of scholarship.
- Maximum Award: Applicants may not receive more than four (4) awards and/or no more than $5,000 total.
- Reimbursement: Applicants must submit proof of enrollment in order to receive award monies. Further instructions will be given in awarding letter.
- Collie Involvement: Demonstrated active participation in Collie-related activities such as:
- Junior Showmanship competitions
- Conformation showing
- Obedience, performance, or competitions or companion events or titles
- 4-H activities with Collies
- Involvement as a member of the Collie Club of America (CCA), the Collie Health Foundation, a child of a CCA member, or a member of a local dog club
- Collie rescue or breed advocacy or Collie related community service
- Essay Submission: A personal essay (750-1,000 words) is required.
Essay Prompt:
“How has working with Collies shaped your personal growth, values, and future aspirations?”
In this essay, the applicant should describe their journey with Collies, including how their involvement has influenced their goals, life perspective, and connection to the breed.
Supporting Materials:
Documentation of Collie Involvement: Evidence of participation in Collie activities, such as show records and letters from mentors, trainers, or club leaders.
Letters of Recommendation: Two (2) to three (3) letters from a mentor, trainer, club member, or instructor who can attest to the applicant’s dedication to the breed and their contributions to the Collie community. Letters should be from non-family members of the applicant.
Documentation of Collie Involvement letters and Letters of Recommendation should be written by different persons. Collie Junior Foundation Board members may not write letters of support for any applicant.
Selection Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded to applicants who:
- show a genuine and sustained commitment to the Collie breed;
- demonstrate a meaningful impact on the Collie community, whether through competitive activities, service, or educational outreach; and,
- exhibit personal growth and values aligned with responsibility, compassion, and dedication to breed advocacy.
